Scripture Memory #1 - RECAP - What has your 1st verse meant to you?

Hello everyone! You've now had about two weeks to work on memorizing your first verse for 2011.

Do you have it down?
Are you still working on it?
Have you seen how this verse has had an impact on your life in the past two weeks?

The verse I chose was Philippians 2:14 -15:
"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation in which you shine like stars in the universe"

I have found myself trying to think more before I speak over the past two weeks. I have been more aware of the complaining and arguing that I hear around me, and realized how easy it can be to join in and add my complaint to the list if I'm not careful. I have sought to be more encouraging with my words, and sometimes that's worked, and other times I've found I again need to hold my tongue and pay more attention to my verse!

It's about time to pick our next verse. What about you? What have you been learning?

  1. I think I've got my first verse memorized (Prov 3:5-6) "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight."

Memory of words is not easy for me. I'm trying to keep God in the front of my mind and actions.

    Next verse:
    Jam 2:12 NIV
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

The verse I chose was Col 3:23-24
Work willingly, at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

I pretty much have mine memorized (sometimes not the exact words, but a paraphrase of what it is saying :)I think it has helped me have a better attitude at work being reminded that I am working for the Lord. I posted this on my bathroom mirror and recite it whenever I go in there.

    My next verse is:

    Mathew 5:16
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
